Celebrate Area Nature & History 4/27

Blooms are bursting, birds are singing, and the grass is growing green – Central Illinois comes to life and it’s time for a celebration!

Celebrate Area Nature and History on Saturday, April 27th!  Join this fun and informative celebration, as we travel through Chenoa, Fairbury, Forrest, and Chatsworth.  Interesting presentations in each town!  Come and go as you please.  Attend & enjoy as many (or few) presentations as you want.  Most locations are open from 9am to 3pm.

         ·         The first presentation starts in Chenoa at 9am at the Chenoa Library. Learn about the Weston Cemetery Prairie Nature Preserve – ‘A gem in our Backyard’ and discover the over 70 native plants that are protected there.  The library is open until noon.

         ·         At Indian Creek Golf Course Banquet Room in Fairbury, find out how to attract Eastern Bluebirds and local wildlife with the area-wide Bluebird Project.   Local photographer, Sarah Bachtold, will share lots of photos, plus there will be poster displays, and interesting information.  Joe Forneris, a local bluebird expert, plans to be part of this program as well!  And, area high school students plan to show how to construct a bluebird house!  The live program begins at 10:30am.

         ·         All aboard!  Head to The Forrest Depot to experience trains and lots of history!  Enjoy lunch at the Hampsher Garden Room – serving “old-fashioned food served on trains in years gone by.”  Let children and area residents serve you by chanting, “Hot coffee, sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, ice cold milk, pretzels, peanuts, & cake!” – from 11:30am – 1pm.

         ·         Don’t miss the interesting Native American History program at the Central Illinois Connection Center in Chatsworth.  Local artifacts will be on display, and there will be fun activities for children. At 1:30pm, join the real-live Native American birthday party for a formally-dressed Native American who will help celebrate and share stories!  Everyone is welcome.  Come have some cake!

The Celebrate Area Nature and History is for all ages and you can come and go whenever and wherever!
