One mile south of Fairbury, on a 60 year-old family farm, Kilgus Farmstead features a Country Store, an On-Farm Creamery and 160 registered Jersey milking cows.
As you pass the green pasture of grazing Jerseys, you’ll see the bright red Kilgus Farmstead Country Store. Rustic and inviting, the store offers products fresh from the farm, a variety of local items and “a serve yourself” delicious homemade soft-serve ice cream cone! If you go early on Monday, Wednesday or Friday you can look through a viewing window to see the milk bottling process in action from the on-farm creamery! The Country Store is open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm.
The Kilgus family is involved in every step of the process from their farm to your table. To give a better understanding of where your food comes from and how a working farm operates, they offer tours. Each tour is given by a Kilgus family member and they show how they care for their animals. On the tour, you visit the milking parlor and learn how the cows give us their milk, meet the Jersey heifers and steers, as well as the Berkshire hogs, plus view the compost barn and learn about its importance on the farm.
Tours for Kilgus Farmstead are available from April through September.
