Majestic Oak and Hickory Trees line the trail as you hike through crunchy fallen leaves. Peeking over the prairie grass is a White Tailed Deer, a family of raccoons scurry up and around a large tree and disappear in a hole. A Red Tailed Hawk cries as it soars above.
Nature waits for you at Fugate Woods Nature Preserve.
With over 150 acres of native timber and restored prairie, Fugate Woods Nature Preserve is just 2 1/2 miles northeast of Fairbury. Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset (with the exception of Mother’s Day and firearm deer season.) Hiking is great exercise for your body and mind! And…you can take your dog, just remember to keep them leashed.
