LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Recently, a variety of pieces of framed artwork have been placed in strategic locations in Fairbury, Cullom, Chenoa and Pontiac. These pieces of art depict various local attractions and are sponsored by different area businesses and organizations.
Each one is framed in barn wood or crib wood from old local buildings which have been torn down. These frames are made by Andy’s Deconstruction and Recycling.
Some of the attractions include the “Rocking Horses” west on Fairbury on Route 24 sponsored by Gerber Real Estate, picturesque sunrise and sunset scenes on the farm sponsored by BCS, the “Where Is the Bench” print, sponsored by Salem4Youth, and Fugate Woods sponsored by Dimond Bros.
“Recently, when someone from our group was dining in Pontiac, people from out of town came to take pictures of these framed art pieces,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. “It was obvious that these folks were tourists, and our hope is to draw them into town.”
It was also reported that several folks have stopped by a local business on different occasions asking about the Rocking Horses along Route 24. During growing season there is corn on both sides, it makes it a little difficult to see the horses right away. Other than during the growing season, the horses are in plain view!
“It seems that these pieces of art are doing the job,” says Bobbi. “We appreciate the sponsorships of the local businesses and organizations. It certainly helps all our businesses when folks come to town.”
