FAIRBURY, IL – Indian Creek Golf & Country Club in Fairbury is hosting an interesting “fund raiser” for their course maintenance fund that is both intriguing and rewarding, at least for three finishers.
Matt Curl, the Course Superintendent, has devised and tested a rather unique way to, hopefully, gain some funding for some much needed course maintenance and give the participants some fun and excitement in the process. He has a bunch of floating golf balls that will be numbered and that participants can “rent” for $20 per ball.
On Saturday, October 29th, at 2:00 pm those golf balls that have been “rented” will all be dropped into Indian Creek over at the bridge on the 3rd hole and they will be carried, by the current, east to the creek area on the 9th hole. A simulated “finish line” will be set up there and the first three golf balls to float across that line will be declared the prize place finishers.
First place pays $1000, second place pays $500. and third place pays $250. In the trial run Matt determined that it takes a little over a half hour for the balls to complete their journey so, it won’t be all that long before the three lucky finishers will find out about their good fortune. The players and fans can follow the swarm of floaters to watch the progress of the balls as they are swept along by the water flow and see if they can all make it through the bends, rocks, and other hazards that might impede the trip of any given ball.
So, if you’d like to get in on the opportunity to win some pretty good money and have some fun in the process, go on out to the Club and get your name in so that one (or more) of those floaters can give you the chance to do so. For you golfers this will be one time when that ball attraction known as Indian Creek (amongst other select names that have been uttered over the years) can actually be a good thing for a change – obviously, non-golfers are certainly welcome to participate and all are invited to have some fun and help out a very worthy cause on behalf of some the nicest real estate in the area. By the way, you don’t need to be present to win.
This event coincides with the Club’s annual Halloween Costume party that’s always a lot of fun to enjoy and that will be happening that same evening starting at 9:00 pm. It promises to be a Saturday full of fun and excitement so go have yourself some of both.
