FAIRBURY, IL – Slagel Family Farm Tour and Dinner Event – here comes the September chapter of what has become a dining legacy that is both informative and a real treat to eat. The September dinner is being prepared by professional chefs, Mike Simmons from the Cafe-Marie-Jeanne and Duncan Biddolph from The Winchester. Both restaurants are “high end” Chicago-land dining facilities that use the Slagel Farm meat products in their kitchens. The “tour” portion of the event begins at approximately 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 17th, and it starts with a butchering demo on how meat is cut into retail portions. When that is finished then Louis-John Slagel (aka “the Farmer) will take the patrons on a walk through the livestock representation there on the farm and they can maybe gather a few eggs, pet the lambs and piglets, and learn about the “old fashioned” practices that the Slagel’s use on their farm to produce their farm fresh meats. Questions are welcome and answers are easy to understand. Once the tour is complete the guests will assemble in the new Barn building, just a stones throw away from the livestock pastures, for a professionally prepared four course meal (prepared by the gentlemen listed above) using the products of the farm to provide an exquisite meal. Feel free to BYOB – water and lemonade will be provided. Kids are welcome as long as they have adult supervision and bus transportation is provided from Chicago – the bus will be leaving at 12 noon from the Cafe Marie-Jeanne at 1001 N California Ave in Chicago. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday – you can learn about the farm, interact with the residents (farmers and animals), and enjoy a great meal prepared by Chefs who know how to do it “just right”.
