FAIRBURY, IL – The Fairbury American Legion Speedway – one of the summer’s more popular sports, Stock Car Racing, continues to provide the adventure and excitement that fans everywhere have become accustomed to. With its newly remodeled track facilities the Fairbury Speedway has given the community a continuum of week-end racing events that has livened up the month of July with some huge races and, as August comes into the picture, the track remains as an entertainment mecca for devout fans and newcomers alike. August brings us the Fairbury Fair so the fairgrounds around the Speedway will be bustling with five days of Fair activities from the 17th to the 21st and the races will be a big attraction for that Saturday night. Come on out and take a look at these guys as they exhibit their skills in navigating a jam packed quarter mile dirt track that has a full evening of adrenaline draining, heart pounding, fast paced thrills that never fails to make a lot of onlookers wonder, “how do they do that?”! The thunder of racing engines at full throttle and the unavoidable crumpling of car bodies that comes from the smallest of miscalculations never fails to keep everyone glued to the action. Here’s the August schedule:
Saturday, August 6th – featuring the 3rd Annual Willard Bess Memorial Mini Sprint Nationals along with a regular night of racing for the Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Sportsman race car classes. Alkota Series race.
Saturday, August 13th – ALMS Late Model Special with $2000 to win (sponsored by Central Illinois Buildings) and Tool’s Auto Sales Street Stock Special with $500 to win. It’ll be a regular night of racing for all other classes (including Hobby Models).
Saturday, August 20th – It’s the Fairbury Fair Championship Night as well as the final night for “track points” for the drivers. The evening has a full regular schedule of racing for the LM, MD, SP, and SS classes. Alkota Series race.(Hot laps at 5:30 with Qualifying starting at 6:00)
Saturday, August 27th – Driver Appreciation Night (free admission to all drivers). The top ten point standings will be introduced and there is a regular night of racing for all classes (including the Hobby Models) as well as the Alkota Series Finale.
Saturday, September 3rd – here’s another “Big One” with the 4th Annual Casey’s Modified Nationals featuring a $10,000 purse for the winner – 50 laps with the American Modified Series and it promises to be a “big time” season ending event that will bring them in from all over. Also, there is the Mullins Race Engines Shootout Non-Qualifiers Feature with $500 to win and $100 to start for this 20 lap tire buster followed by the 40 lap, $3000 to win, UMP DIRTcar Late Model Special. It’s the last race night of the 2016 season and they’ve got it jam packed with all the racing incentives that spectators want to see – come on out and check it out and get in on the fun! Plenty of parking, plenty of seating, plenty of facilities, plenty of food and drink – Stock Car Racing can’t get much better than this!
