FAIRBURY, IL – Special Breakfast – Could you use a good ol’ country breakfast – how about some biscuits and gravy or scrambled eggs, accompanied by orange juice, milk, or coffee? Sound good – well, add to that the ambiance of a country farm setting and you’ve got yourself a deal. On Saturday morning, June 6th, between 7:00am and 10:00am you can find a breakfast just like that if you take First Street about a mile south of the stop light on Route 24 where you’ll come to the Kilgus Family Farmstead there on the west side of the road just before the T intersection. You’ll see an awning style tent set up and in that tent, for $1.00, you can have that breakfast.
This will be the fifth annual breakfast sponsored by the Livingston County Farm Bureau Young Leaders and hosted by the Kilgus family at their farming facility and, in addition to giving the community (all you city slickers, etc.) an opportunity to see a farming operation in operation, it gives you the opening to ask questions about how it all works and get understandable answers from folks who really know what they’re talking about. The breakfast is provided at the one dollar cost to help call attention to the investment that farmers make and what they realize as a return on that investment – even though pricing fluctuates in an upward way in the supply chain the farmer generally doesn’t realize any benefit because their costs are seldom reduced and their margins are market vulnerable. You can come just for the breakfast but, there is a load of informative information available along with farm tours and the Kilgus Country Store is right there for your farm products shopping list. Bring the family, let the kids see the livestock, and get a good working idea of how the backbone of this area and community makes it all happen for your dinner table and the local economy. It’s a good meal that’s well worth having and, for $1.00 you can’t go wrong so, come on out and listen to these “Young Guys” (and the Oldsters as well) and get a down on the farm understanding of what “steak and eggs” are all about.
