Stories – Information – Instructions – Inspiration. These are just some of the descriptive identities that characterize books, and books are a tool by which words are collected in an informative order that, in turn, give the imagination a path to travel and make the power of reasoning an active force within us. In times past these incredible collections were presented for personal use in the form of typed pages but, today, we also have the electronic science of modern technology that turns our ears into eyes and our eyes into receptacles for our minds. An annual opportunity is once again approaching – a literary treasure trove of “books” in all of today’s various formats involving reading categories that touch on just about everything.
The Friends of the Dominy LIbrary have their annual Book Sale scheduled for Thursday, April 28th, from 9am to 6pm, Friday, April 29th, from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday, April 30th, from 9am to 12pm. This vast collection of gently used books (includes CDs & DVDs) is inclusive of fiction, biographies, bibles and religious themes, self-help, magazines, instructional, and children’s books. There’s classics, fantasy, sci-fi, westerns, romance, current fiction, cook books, gardening, and an assortment of LARGE PRINT editions that can make the experience a lot easier for some of us.
All of that, and more, is going to be there waiting for you in the downstairs of the Dominy Memoiral Library – your chance to go to other lands, even other worlds, and along the way give a “nod” to Mark Twain or Stephen King or Albert Einstein. Did you think that Sherlock Holmes wasn’t real, well, he’s there along with Dr. Watson – right over there, just to the left of Harry Potter and talking to that guy that knows all about how to plant a garden. This a great opportunity to go to the “Brain Food Buffet” and feast on a source of entertainment and learning that has a permanent presence for all those wise enough to partake and, at pricing that fits anyone’s budget. Books are peoples “best friends” and, if you don’t quite understand how that can be, there’s a book that can explain it to you – go on, go make some new friends.
