The month of June is full of special interest events for the community and we’ve got them listed here with a bit of information about each so, look it over and see which ones fit you and yours “to do list”.
June 1st – the Sunshine Fitness Center is offering a summer special for new members – during the entire month of June you can sign up for a special membership fee of $100 so, you Ladies – this facility is designed exclusively for you and, if you needed an extra little incentive to go get in shape – here it is. Give them a call at 815-692-4086 for more details or, stop in and talk to their friendly staff. The Center is located at 127 West Locust Street (Fairbury’s Main Street) on the south side of the street between Third and Second Streets.
Monday, June 1st – Once ‘n Again, Fairbury’s famous “resale” haven, is recognizing National Go Barefoot Day by boycotting it – come on in and get 25% off of any pair of shoes you buy. Located at 118 West Locust St. (Fairbury’s Main Street) its a great place to shop and save.
Saturday, June 6th – “Angels in Heaven” Golf Outing – an annual special day of golf in honor of Tori and Alec Crutcher. Held at Indian Creek Country Club on Fairbury’s southeast border the outing is open to the public and it is a scramble format (foursomes using the best position ball on all shots). There are “shotgun” starts (all teams are assigned to a starting hole) at 7:30am and 1:00pm with tournament first and second place cash payouts and plenty of other prizes and opportunities as well as a banquet style lunch. Saturday, June 6th – the annual Young Leaders Breakfast on the Farm – sponsored and hosted by Kilgus Farmstead and organized by the Livingston County Farm Bureau this good ol’ country breakfast focuses the publics attention on our farming community and its functionality. For $1.00 you can get biscuits and gravy along with eggs, milk and juice from 7am to 10am and there is shelter from any rain that might happen along. Kilgus Farmstead is located at 21741 North 670 East Road (south on First Street to the T intersection) and all you need to do is show up, give them a dollar, and enjoy. (See our individual write-up).
Monday, June 8th – Once ‘n Again is honoring National Best Friends Day – bring your best friend and get $5 off of any purchase of $15 or more – share the savings, that’s what friends are for.
Tuesday, June 9th – Dave’s Supermarket’s 65th Anniversary – Dave’s is having their annual “Pig-Out” anniversary celebration and it is an event that is filled with good food, entertainment, and friendly people. Pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, drinks, and plenty of sides at customer appreciation prices – the music is dependent on good weather but the food is there rain or shine. It all starts about 10:30am and goes until 1:30pm at one of Fairbury’s finest shopping and service centers – come on up and see why Dave’s has the upstanding reputation that they’re known for. They’re at 120 South 3rd Street (two blocks north of Route 24 on 3rd St.) and they’ll be looking for you.
Tuesday, June 9th – Doc’s Cares Event – Doc’s Pharmacy and Pharmacist Julie Patten will be having another of her informative presentations on health topics. This month’s topic is on the old fashioned exercise of walking and Julie will “walk” you through the techniques and benefits of controlled programmed walking routines that will tone your body up, use up some of those excess body retentions, and give you a mental and physical boost. These “Doc’s Cares” presentations that Julie gives are open to the public and all are welcome – she starts at 2:00pm and the session runs for approximately an hour so bring your questions and get the answers. Doc’s Pharmacy is on the east edge of Fairbury and their entrance is right off Route 24 – if you need more info just give them a call at 815-692-2132.
Wednesday, June 17th – this is the China Kitchen’s monthly “Surprise Buffet Item Day” and customers stopping in for some of this unique oriental cuisine will be treated to a special preparation for the day – it makes a great all you can eat buffet even better. Check it out, it might be the difference your day needs. The China Kitchen is located at 108 West Locust Street (Fairbury’s Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets) and they are open for lunch and dinner. They also have take-out, you can call them at 815-692-3976.
Friday, June 19th – Lost in Time Restaurant actually goes back in time with a commemorative day honoring one of Fairbury’s oldest and dearest eateries – RD’s Drive-In. RD’s is gone now but the oldsters still remember all of the great items they served and at this annual event the newbies get on board just like we did in the old days. Lost in Time brings both the food and the ambiance of RD’s Drive-In back to life and they’ll be doing it for both lunch and dinner so get on up there and enjoy the experience. The restaurant is at 200 East Locust Street (Fairbury’s Main Street) on the corner of Fourth and Locust and, you can call them at 815-692-2100 – it’s a unique place to eat breakfast or lunch no matter the venue, but this event is rather special.
Friday, June 19th – First State Bank of Forrest – Customer Appreciation Day. Those stopping in at the Bank’s facilities on this Friday will be treated to cookies and punch, a little something extra to go with a friendly knowledgeable staff and the well regarded banking amenities that they’re already known for. If you don’t already have a KASASA checking account, open one up while you’re enjoying the refreshments, you’ll be glad you did – ask the folks at the bank for details and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
Friday & Saturday, June 19th & 20th – the Specialty Shops of Fairbury are teaming up with the Speedway’s Summer Nationals racing event and will be offering shopping incentives at each of their respective individual places of business with the synonymous theme of “A Sizzling Summer Event”. For those two days you can have your own race through these special interest places of unique shopping and dining to take advantage of discounts and specials that the innovative creativity of this group comes up with. Check out the many brochures and information cards that are in all the local businesses to see a listing of this special group and their hours of operation. Fairbury has a large assortment of business endeavors in this category and, collectively, they have quite a representation of customer interest items and services – if you’re not already familiar with them this would be a good time to expand your horizons.
Saturday, June 20th – here you go Race Fans – the UMP Summer Nationals will be up and running at the Fairbury American Legion Speedway. This racing program has a big purse and it attracts just about all of the “who’s who” in dirt track stock car racing. It is one of the more exciting race nights with plenty of thrills and spills – rumor has it that fans spend most of the evening only using the edge of their seats so come on out and see how much adrenaline you can use up. Qualifying starts at 6:30pm and this is one of the premiere events of the season – if you’re a fan, you don’t want to miss it. The race track is in the Fairbury Fair Grounds with entrances at the south end of Third Street and First Street – plenty of parking, plenty of seating and plenty of fun.
Sunday, June 21st – the annual Parent-Child Golf Tournament is open to the public at Indian Creek Golf and Country Club. This popular event is a great way for Mom and Dad to partner up with Son or Daughter and go forth and conquer. Its a lot of fun, well organized, and a great opportunity for the family golfers to spend some quality time together with some fun in the sun (hopefully). Details are available at Indian Creek, 815-692-2655 or, just stop in – the course is about a half mile south of Route 24 on Seventh Street. Go on, go have some fun.
Sunday, June 21st – Hey, it’s Father’s Day and McDonald’s Family Restaurant is featuring a Father’s Day Special. Bring Dad in for lunch or dinner or both (breakfast if you want) and give him that special recognition all Dad’s enjoy – its a good thing even if he is the one paying. And, just for giggles, McDonald’s has a little side line going for the day, make your Dad a duck tape tie, have him wear it for the visit, and get the chance to win the judgment of “best duck tape tie” – the winner gets a discount certificate for their next visit. Larger groups are encouraged to make reservations at 815-692-4313 or just stop in – they’re located on the east end of Fairbury’s Route 24 (512 East Oak Street) and they’d be glad to see you any time.
Tuesday, June 23rd – Once ‘n Again is having a “Faithful Shopper Appreciation Sale” – these Folks are always coming up with ways to keep it interesting while showing their thanks to their customers. Come on up and get those things you need and enjoy the savings opportunities – in addition to a 20% discount on everything but furniture you can register to win one of 20 prizes – its fun, friendly, and it can get exciting so check it out.
