Kitchen Walk – Here is an opportunity for members of the community to take a look at some kitchens that have been uniquely coordinated and styled to specific interests and personal tastes. This showcase, of private homes that have opened their doors to the “Walk” participants, presents an assortment of innovative ideas and classy styles on what can be accomplished in one of the homes more popular rooms. Come on out and take a look, maybe feed your own idea generator for some renovations if you’re in the market or, just admire some of the personal effort that’s gone into these folk’s creativeness.
The “Kitchen Walk” is being organized by the Friends of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders (FCCLA) Chapter of Prairie Central and the proceeds are for a fundraiser that will be used to send a delegation of students from the local chapter to this years National Conference in Washington, DC. This delegation is comprised of 14 students and a newly elected State Officer, all of which qualified at the State Conference in Springfield in April with their STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition). These young folks have worked all year long on these special projects and have qualified for this illustrious recognition in Washington at the National level with their successful presentations of projects that are profound in their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects that display leadership skills and career preparations. Quite an accomplishment! Since 1945 the members of the FCCLA have been making a difference in their families and their communities by addressing important issues pertaining to the quality structures of these important pieces of social fabric through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
The Friends of the FCCLA is an alumni/family based organization that assists our local chapter in both raising money for their projects and events and with organizing and chaperoning the events themselves. In addition to this alumni organization there are three of our local businesses that are helping to sponsor the Kitchen Walk and they are Dave’s Supermarket, Once ‘n Again, and Heart’s Desire. Ticket’s can be purchased in advance at a number of local establishments that include Heart’s Desire, A Head of Style, Heartland Bank, Bluestem Bank, Chenoa Pharmacy, Sunshine Fitness, and Serendipity.

The Walk is scheduled to take place from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, May 16th and details concerning how to be a part of it can be obtained at any of the retail outlets who have the advance tickets. It’s a great way to support these young people who, collectively, are striving to make a difference in the lives of others with their efforts and organized cause and it gives you the opportunity to see some really well put together kitchens that just might ignite some ideas of your own. Come on out and make a difference yourself – let’s get these youngsters to Washington, DC and let them make Prairie Central proud at the National level.
