The Blade – Preparing for Christmas Parade Event

One of Fairbury’s largest events of the year is the annual Chamber-sponsored Christmas Parade. The Chamber is working hard to recharge this parade with more beautiful, interesting floats and participation from the local businesses and organizations.

The Chamber is the “Fairbury Area” Chamber, and includes businesses from other Prairie Central communities. A committee was formed by the Chamber to begin planning the parade, and now we are less than a few short months away!

Dimond Brothers has graciously donated $500 for the 1st place prize in the float division for this year’s parade. This is a huge incentive for any organization or business to participate in making the Christmas Parade an event that will draw people from far and wide.

The 2nd place prize will be $250 and the 3rd place will be $175.

The Chamber is working with the Prairie Central School and local Church groups to identify student groups and clubs that would be willing to work with local businesses to create floats that are impressive, unforgettable, and extraordinary!

Student and Church groups would be responsible for working with a local business(es) to identify a Christmas theme and purchase the necessary decorations. The business would underwrite the cost of the decorations, and the students would supply the labor required to build the float. Finding a “secret place” to construct the float and keep it hidden will be critical so that it will be a surprise when it is unveiled on the day of the parade.  The school and church group(s) will then get the honors of being in the parade and showcasing their work in hopes of winning a prize!

Businesses are encouraged to contact the Chamber to discuss the possibilities! The Chamber’s number is (815) 692-3899.

“Working with a student group is a great idea!” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. “Last year the FCCLA created a joint float with Heart’s Desire. The students did a wonderful job, and it really worked out nicely for all of us!”
