Recently, if you happen to be walking down Locust Street in Fairbury, you have probably noticed there are often new people coming to town. We spoke with some of the shop owners about what they have noticed in their stores.
This past week, Meyer’s Gifts & Services had several new folks stop by for a visit. As in several other shops, Roberta Meyers, owner, has a signup sheet near her register. This allows people from out of town to sign-up to receive a periodic email from Fairbury. Many also comment about their experience in the store.
Here are some of the comments that were noted last week. “Neat store!” “Great Service.” “Such a fun store.” “Love your store.” “Great new store.”
On Tuesday, a group of four ladies came in from Decatur, Mount Zion, and Dunlap. One of them had some work done at Knapp Kitchens in Forrest and asked what there is to do in the area. They were very interested in the Hampsher Hotel. For lunch, they went to Lost in Time where they found a “Come to Fairbury” brochure.
“It is always exciting when folks come from so far away. They signed up for periodic emails from Fairbury so we can stay in touch.
“We are seeing folks from out of town more and more often. It makes my day when they enjoy their visit here,” says Roberta.
As we enter the holiday season, Fairbury’s shops are prepared for this festive time of year. They are holding a special event on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. Everyone – both local and out-of-town – can enjoy the experience of browsing our local shops for gifts for loved ones. There is so much available locally! Shop local!
Also, the Fairbury Christmas Parade is coming up on Saturday, December 6th. This parade is sponsored by the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce. Businesses and organizations can still participate by calling the Chamber office at (815) 692-3899. It may be cold, but dress warmly and come out to support our local businesses and enjoy the parade!
Bobbi McKeon of the Specialty Shops Group says, “We appreciate all the comments and support of this column and our efforts. Feel free to email us at email@example.com with any ideas!”
