The Blade – More Interesting Survey Results

We are back again to reviewing the survey sponsored by the Fairbury Planning Commission!

A couple of the questions related to what products and services are purchased online and outside of town. Clothing was the top item selected. This is most likely due to the limited local access to new clothing. However, it is well known that Once ‘n Again offers very high quality fashions that are new or very gently used. Once ‘n Again is one of the most frequented shops in the area. People come from far and wide to shop this expansive resale shop. Once ‘n Again sells clothing for the family, purses, shoes, jewelry, books, home décor, furniture and more. Some customer’s favorite brands are Coach, Ann Taylor Loft, Talbots, The Limited, J Crew, American Eagle, The North Face, Nike, Gymboree, and more.

Also, the Spotted Owl is our newest specialty shop. Check out this quaint boutique for new, fashionable clothing and accessories.

Back to the survey – another item high on the list of online/out-of-town responses was electronics. Again, this is most likely due to the ease of purchasing these items online. We do have a great Radio Shack in town. There are many benefits to shopping locally for these items. The personal, local service is a huge benefit. Also, there is a big benefit in the ability to tap into the local expertise and knowledge of our technical experts when we need someone to help solve an issue or answer a question. Don’t overlook the local electronic experts and product providers!

The third highest category was “appliances.” If you haven’t checked recently, you should go now, and see what appliances are available locally. Nussbaum’s have a large showroom of almost any appliance your home would need. You may be surprised to find exactly what you want at a great price. If not, ask for it to be ordered! Some of the local service providers may also offer appliances.

“Every time you buy something in town, it helps the community, too.” says Bobbi McKeon, coordinator of the specialty shops group.

The number one reason for shopping online or out of town was “not available in Fairbury.” Of course, Fairbury businesses cannot offer everything. But, it is wise to check before you leave town to make sure. You may be surprised what all IS available in town.

More variety/options, lower prices, and convenience of shopping online were also notable reasons. Again, as we all know, depending on the products, our shops cannot provide everything everyone wants. However, we are thankful that Fairbury has such a variety of shops offering such a wide line of products and services. Really, when we think about it, there is very little we need that we can’t find locally.

“As we understand there are sometimes benefits in the “out-of-town shopping experience,” we want to acknowledge the huge support of our local community in shopping locally,” says Bobbi McKeon. “Every dollar spent in our City or our County helps each and every one of us!”
