The Blade – More Fall Activities

The Fairbury Women’s Club is, once again, sponsoring the Fairbury Fall All Town Garage Sale Days – Friday, Sept. 26th and Saturday, Sept. 27th. This is a great event attracting many folks to our town.

“Our club has been sponsoring these sales spring and fall for over 30 years. We are a small non-profit club of 12 members who work hard and truly appreciate the support of the community and those who advertise with us,” says Carol Ely.

With the goal being to bring people to Fairbury to experience the area, the Club’s has ads in 18 publications, plus they print maps and flyers. The ads cover a 200-mile radius of Fairbury bringing many people from out of town and out of state.

The profits from the sales have been used for local community projects such Dominy Memorial Library Summer Reading Program, Relay for Life, PC Music Program, Illinois Leadership Seminar for Sophomore student, June Blood Drive, and After Prom, plus projects such as Operation Smile, Canine Companions, Shot@Life, Helping Babies Breathe, Camp I Am Me, Veterans projects, Native American projects, Shawnee National Forrest, Winning Wheels and Very Special Arts, to name a few.

This year’s summer garage sales benefit the Fire Department. “From the Summer Sales, we donated $300 to the Brian Munz Safety Complex! Our club meets the first Thursday of each month. Membership is open to anyone 18 or over that would like to work to make our community a better in which to live,” says Carol.

Also that weekend, Forrest is holding their “Wabash Days.” On Saturday, September 27th, this annual event celebrates fall and integrates some of Forrest’s history. This is a family event! Plan for a day filled with fun activities, food, and fellowship.
