According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, this year’s “ total spending from Thursday through Sunday sank 11% from a year earlier to $50.9 billion, according to the National Retail Federation, which surveyed 4,600 consumers on Friday and Saturday.”
The Specialty Shops group is proud to announce that the stores in Fairbury had a great weekend. For many, the sales over the Thanksgiving weekend increased over 2013!
“We would like to take this article to thank everyone for their gracious support of our endeavors as the Small Specialty Shop Group,” says Bobbi McKeon, coordinator.
“Our Black Friday and Small Business Saturday were great days for Fairbury. I feel truly blessed to call Fairbury my home-town and to have so many of you feel the same way!
“Many thanks to all of you for all the kind words of support, the offers to help when the need arises, bringing your family and friends to shop and eat at our local stores and restaurants. Without all of you (our great communities) all our efforts would be in vain,” Bobbi continues.
The Spotted Owl, Once ‘n Again, Serendipity, Country Cupboard, Lost in Time, Meyer’s Gifts & Services, Radio Shack, Doc’s, Antiques & Uniques, and Heart’s Desire all reported a good weekend! The hard work performed by these shops is bringing folks to town even on “big shopping days” like Black Friday. The collaborative efforts seem to be paying off as the group of shops works together to refer shoppers to one another.
Our surrounding communities are a huge benefit to us. Other small towns like Chatsworth, Forrest, Chenoa, Strawn, Cropsey, and Saunemin help support our businesses in a big way. Bringing shoppers to our small town benefits everyone. Eateries, shops, and some service businesses see direct benefits, but everyone is the beneficiary of more spending and good activity in town.
Yes! We do have so much to be thankful for, and the holiday season is a great time to remind ourselves of the benefits a small town provides.
