A big Fairbury weekend is almost here! The annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is this weekend on Saturday, December 6th – the parade begins at 10:30am. Mark your calendars to go and enjoy the parade and all the other activities that day.
Bobbi McKeon of Heart’s Desire says, “For as long as I remember, the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce members have sponsored the annual Christmas parade to bring folks into town to enjoy the event, shop our stores, dine at our eateries, and have a day of fun. The parade is something to look forward to each year – with Miss Merry Christmas and Jack Frost, all the floats and other entries, the marching band, and of course Santa! Santa will be at the Walton Centre after the parade until 1pm.”
Once again, the Fairbury Women’s Club is holding the Kid’s Corner at the Walton Centre from 9am to 1pm. This is a fun event for children! Children age twelve and under may purchase gifts for $1 for parents and grandparents and have them wrapped. Parents can help their child make a list of those they are to buy for and then wait outside the room while the child shops! Of course, there are folks available to help them shop. What a great way for children to do “their own shopping” in a safe environment!
Don’t miss the Cookie Jar fundraiser at Westview Elementary School! Purchase a jar filled with cookies of your choice from 9am to 1pm.
Another unique event that day will be the horse-drawn carriage rides, sponsored by Bluestem Bank. In the last several years, these rides have drawn folks to town to enjoy a leisurely ride throughout the streets of Fairbury. Rides will begin after the parade until 1pm starting on the corner of 3rd and Locust streets.
The Fairbury Lion’s Club is holding their annual Chili and Oyster lunch at the hall of the IOOF (International Order of Oddfellows) above Meyers’ Gifts and Services (the old Sav-Mor building – 122 W. Locust St.) Serving begins at 11am and ends at 1:30pm. Don’t miss out! Once again, this event has been an annual event for many, many years bringing folks to town to treat themselves to chili and oysters!
The First United Methodist Church in Fairbury at 200 E. Maple St. is holding their annual pancake and sausage breakfast/lunch from 7am to 1pm. The proceeds from this breakfast will go to the Salvation Army. This will also be a craft/bake sale sponsored by the United Methodist Women.
Another event happening on Saturday includes the Relay for Life Christmas Bazaar event at the gym at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury (701 N 7th St., Fairbury). Shop for your Christmas gifts at the various vendors from 9am – 2pm. Enjoy a biscuit and gravy breakfast beginning at 7:30 am and/or a pork bbq lunch until 2pm!
Search the Blade of other events happening in town and in the area!
A lot of work goes into creating an event-filled day like this one. However, events like these help keep our small towns alive. Mark your calendar and go out and support the local folks by enjoying a fun-filled day in Fairbury!
