The Blade – Area Events a Key to Bringing Folks to Town

As we start the New Year, the Specialty Shops group is hitting the ground running with hopes of encouraging visitors to come to our area.

One big draw is holding events. It doesn’t matter if it is a community-wide, town-wide, or individual business or organization event, these are instrumental in getting folks to visit our area.

The Shops are planning a shopping event for later in January (30th and 31st). The theme will be “Winter Blues to the Moon!”

Of course, January is typically a slower time for “tourists.” However, several businesses are holding events. Some are already past (ie Dairy Queen’s Receipt Day, Sunshine Fitness Massage Day, and H&R Block’s Affordable Care events earlier this month).

Once ‘n Again is holding their 13th Annual Food & Necessity Drive on January 5 – 19th. China Kitchen has a Mystery Buffet Item Day on January 14th. Doc’s Pharmacy is holding a HealthChek on January 23rd.

Everyone should check out The Blade for more events. A couple coming up – open to the public – include a Prairie Lands Foundation event, Butterflies to Blooms” co-sponsored by the Friends of Dominy Library on January 25th and an Illinois Farm Bureau Event at the Walton Centre on January 19th.

“Events like these bring folks to town to shop and eat. Keeping our town actively buzzing is our goal,” says Bobbi McKeon, coordinator of the Specialty Shops group.

“We would like to hear of any other upcoming events!”
