The Blade – A Peek at Next Week’s Activities

Supporting our local organizations and charities is an important part of helping our community stay alive. Fairview Haven is holding their Annual Silent Auction and Benefit Supper on Friday, November 7th. This is definitely a worthy cause as Fairview provides a clean, comfortable environment for many, many seniors.

“The food is wonderful, and the auction always has so many interesting items,” says Bobbi McKeon. “Set aside a little time prior to the auction before you pick up your food to put in some bids. This event is a great experience. Don’t miss out!”

Talking about experiences…The holidays are around the corner! Shopping season is starting, and this begs the thought of shopping local vs. shopping out of town.

“Before you shop out of town for your gifts, be sure to check out our local shops!” says Bobbi McKeon. “You might be surprised that they have just the gift you were looking for!”

Most everyone occasionally enjoys a different experience. It’s fun to periodically shop at the mall or take a trip to Chicago, or take a vacation and tour other parts of the country. Unique experiences make life more fun.

The specialty shops in town and in our area offer many unique experiences as well. As the recent months have proven, folks from out of town enjoy the experience of coming and shopping in Fairbury. Shopping for Christmas gifts is a special activity for many folks each year. No one should feel obligated to give up the “fun, out-of-town shopping trip” that they enjoy. However, shopping local helps the community.

On Monday, November 3rd, the specialty shops are holding their Annual Holiday Open Houses. This is a fun day each year – at the beginning of the season – when the shops are stocked with new holiday items, and many are decorated for Christmas.

Country Cupboard, Dave’s Supermarket, Heart’s Desire Antiques & Accents, Lost Arts, Meyer’s Gifts & Services, Once ‘n Again, Serendipity Cards & Gifts & The Spotted Owl are participating. Mark your calendars for Monday, November 3rd to begin your holiday shopping here in Fairbury!
