The Blade – 139th Running of the Fairbury Fair

Now is the time when the town of Fairbury starts to buzz with anticipation for the Fairbury Fair. Who will show the best quilt this year, who will have Grand Champion Livestock, what night is the Demo Derby, friends asking what night are you going? The Fairbury Fairboard has a great lineup for everyone this year and our Theme is “It’s a Jungle out There….So Come to the Fair!”

Although the volunteer Fairboard do most of the planning and behind the scene work, the Fair would not happen if it wasn’t for the Fairbury and surrounding area businesses and community members. This area for 139 years has always helped make this Fair what it is today. The businesses work together to donate money and sponsor different events at the Fair. They sell products to help exhibitors with their entries and they let their employees off work so they can volunteer at the fairgrounds. “I grew up with the Fair. Someone in my family has always been out at the Fairgrounds working. It’s in my blood, “ says Fair Chairman Sally Goembel.

The board is looking for record entries this year. Entries have been increasing over the last two years as a new generation of people are getting interested in showing their talents. The Fairboard invites everyone to come out and watch the livestock shows, take a tour through the barns and don’t miss all the wonderful exhibits in Floral Hall. The quilts, flowers, painting, pictures, cakes, cookies, canned items, crocheting, sewing are extraordinary examples of the talent in this area. Come out and see who is the winner in all the categories and then the next time you see them on the street, tell them congratulations.

President Leroy Rodriguez encourages you to take a look at the sponsor board on the Fairgrounds and on the website (www.fairburyfair.com) and then personally thank those businesses for sponsoring our Fair. The Fairboard hopes to see you all at the fair!
