We all know that if we find like-minded folks to help, we can get so much more done working together as alone. This has proven true with the Specialty Shops group in Fairbury. Almost four years ago, a group of shop owners, led by Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire, started meeting on a regular basis to work together and promote each other.
This cooperation and collaboration has yielded many benefits, not only for the shops, but also for Fairbury. The Fairbury brochure is a direct benefit from the activities of this group. Many other communities have inquired and would like to be like us.
Recently, someone gave us proof of this team work. A young woman who collects Raggedy Ann items was in Antiques & Uniques and was able to find one item to purchase for her collection. When she mentioned that she was exploring Fairbury, store owner Diane Pawlowski asked her if she had one of the brochures to help her identify other stores she’d like to visit on her adventure. Her response was, “Yes, everybody keeps trying to give me one!”
“Here is proof that the Specialty Shop owners and employees continue to do a great job using the brochure to help newcomers cover as many businesses as possible in Fairbury before heading back home,” says Pawlowski.
When possible, Fairbury also works together to promote other communities in the area. Other communities are working with Fairbury as well. It is a team effort, and it is exciting.
“Our garage sales were last week, and we want people to know that Chenoa, Forrest, Gilman, and Cornell are this coming weekend – May 5th and 6th,” say Bobbi McKeon. “Also, the Red Carpet Corridor is this weekend (May 6th & 7th). There are lots of activities scheduled in Chenoa, Dwight, and Pontiac. Chenoa’s garage sales run through the 7th.”
As always, if you have any stories, ideas or suggestions for interesting topics about our community, please stop by Heart’s Desire, call Bobbi McKeon at (815) 692-4500 or email fairbury@fairburyILattractions.com.
