Spring Brings New Things to our Community

Here it is almost springtime!  With us now being on Daylight savings time, spring is in the air!  After a very mild winter (so far), we are excited about the prospects of spring and the new things it will bring.

“Approximately, a year ago, I attended a meeting at Dominy Memorial Library for a group of community leaders from all over the county.  Leaders from all fifteen incorporated communities were present.  This was the first of several meetings throughout 2016.  The goal of these meetings is to encourage communities to work together, promote each other, support each other’s events and businesses, and begin interacting on a regular basis.  This was something new for not only Livingston County, but we believe also for the State of Illinois,” say Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops.

“A group of almost 60 people met again a few weeks ago; this time in Odell.  Setting goals for 2017 was on the agenda.  Indeed this is a sign of spring… all things fresh and new . . . multiple communities working together, similarly to what our local specialty shops are doing!  This is truly a great way to impact the local economy of our county.  Stay tuned for more!”

Over the next few weeks, there are several events signifying the beginning of Spring!  On Friday, March 17th and Saturday, March 18th, the Specialty Shops are hosting their annual “Spring Open Houses!”  Kilgus Farmstead, Lost Arts, Antiques & Uniques, Fairbury Furniture, Meyer’s Gifts, Dave’s Supermarket, Serendipity, Heart’s Desire, Once ‘n Again, and The Country Cupboard are all participating.  Go take a look at the new items available in town.

On Monday, March 20th, Dairy Queen is celebrating a “FREE CONE DAY!”  Stop in for a cone and enjoy one of the newest interior-decorated Dairy Queen Grill & Chills around!

“Spring is such a wonderful time of year!  Fairbury is such a great place to be!” says Bobbi McKeon.
