The Prairie Dirt Classic is coming to Fairbury this weekend – July 28th and 29th! Thousands of people will be coming to the area and our community’s local economy will benefit. These fans will need the services of area restaurants, food stores, gas stations and shops. In the end, money spent locally helps keep our community alive and well.
For those who follow the stock car dirt track racing programs, you know this event is a huge one for the Fairbury American Legion Speedway. It has a $30,000 purse for the winner and the competition on that circuit has a lot of top talent from the sport following the money trail.
“While fans are here, there are other events going on, too. The local specialty shops are holding a “Race to Fairbury” event on Friday and Saturday,” says Bobbi McKeon owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. Each shop has something unique to offer and there are some bargains to be had at the shops, too. The Spotted Owl, Serendipity, Once ‘n Again/Frugality, Meyer’s Gifts and Services, Timeless Treats/Lost Arts, Kilgus Farmstead, Heart’s Desire, Fairbury Furniture, Dave’s Supermarket, and Country Cupboard are participating in this event!
These many shops each offer their own uniqueness to the activities for the weekend. Plus, this year, the Indian Creek Market will be holding their market on Saturday as well! It is in Central Park downtown from 9am – 2pm. Indian Creek Market is an upscale quality flea market, craft fair and farmers market held on special weekends. It is fun and provides another great reason for folks to come and shop in our community!
