It’s the beginning of the racing season at the Fairbury Speedway (FALS), and this weekend is absolutely packed with fun events in Fairbury.
For race fans, on Saturday, June 1st, from 7pm to 10pm, enjoy free admission on FALS Fan Appreciation night! Watch DIRTcar Late Models and DIRTcar Modifieds race to win.
Before the race, come to Dave’s Meet & Greet in the east parking lot on June 1st from 1pm to 3pm. Get to know the drivers and see their cars up close! Make sure to come hungry because Dave’s is offering grilled pork sandwiches and a water bottle for $3. You won’t want to miss the parade of cars as they drive back to the track at 3pm.
Also on Saturday, June 1st, from noon to 5pm, admire the sleek cars on display during the 2nd Annual High Octane Show & Shine. Check out all kinds of cars, from hot rods and muscle cars to vintage and high-end restorations. All cars will be located on Locust Street in downtown Fairbury. The rain date is June 8th. You can also register your own cars in the High Octane Show & Shine between noon and 2pm.
While you’re in town, stop by the Specialty Shops for their “Welcome Race Fans” event! Take advantage of clearance sales, new items, and great service.
“Busy weekends like these bring lots of people to our community,” says Bobbi McKeon, coordinator of the Specialty Shops of Fairbury. “It is not only beneficial to local businesses but also loads of fun!”
On the same note of a buzzing town, the Hoffman House is holding an open house from Friday through Sunday, May 31st-June 2nd. The Hoffman House was built by the Dominy family in the late 1800s, and it remains one of the grandest houses in Fairbury. It is now the home of Sisters Inn, Take 5 Rendezvous event center/bar, and Wildlife Health coaching. Visit the Hoffman House and get to know these new businesses. Visitors will be entered into a drawing for a free night’s stay at the Sisters Inn. Tickets are $8 each or 4 for $30. Beverages will be available for purchase.
Times for the open house are Friday, May 31st, 4pm-9pm; Saturday, June 1st, 8am-12pm; and Sunday, June 2nd, 2pm-6pm. If you’re attending the Hoffman House Open House, please avoid parking in the alley. Instead, park at the First Presbyterian Church (101 E. Elm Street).
