Prairie Dirt Classic Weekend

This upcoming week is going to be a busy one in Fairbury!  Not only will the Prairie Dirt Classic be taking place on July 26-27, but the Specialty Shops in Fairbury event, the Route 24 Junk in the Trunk, plus a host of other events will be, too.  The best part about this weekend is that the money spent locally will be put back into the community.

The Dominy Memorial Library Summer Book Sale will be kicking off the celebrations on Thursday.  The three-day book sale will be offering a wide range of books including Novels, Children’s books, Cookbooks, Large Print, Coffee Table Books, magazines, DVDs, and more..  The sale, located downstairs in the library building, will be set up like a library, making it easy to find the book that you want.  You can visit the book sale on Thursday, from 9 am to 6 pm; Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm; and Saturday, from 9 am to 12 pm.

Books won’t be the only thing on sale.  Sales abound this upcoming weekend!  Shoppers can also attend All-Town Garage Sales in Fairbury – Thursday through Saturday – on the 25th, 26th  and 27th.  Of course, there is an additional array of shopping!   The Specialty Shops in Fairbury will be holding the “Race to Fairbury” event on July 26-27.  Shops of all kinds will be opening their doors with new items, special sales, and fun that will attract young and old.  The variety of shops will include Country Cupboard, Dave’s Supermarket, Fairbury Fastener & Supply, Fairbury Furniture, Heart’s Desire Antiques & Accents, Kilgus Farmstead Country Store, Lost Arts/Timeless Treats, Once ‘n Again, Frugality, Serendipity, and The Spotted Owl.

Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of Specialty Shops in Fairbury says, “With all that’s going on this coming weekend, our ‘Race to Fairbury’ is a great event for people to get out and enjoy themselves while checking off their list of needs and wants.”

You can also come to the monthly Route 24 Junk in the Trunk on the 28th, located in Dos Fuentes parking lot on the west side of town.  The open-air flea market can also be found in Watseka, Gilman, Chatsworth, El Paso, and Eureka from 9 or 10 am till 2 pm.  At each location, find treasures and treats in the trunks of vehicles, plus – depending on the community – you can also enjoy food and games.

Last, but certainly not least, is the FALS Prairie Dirt Classic Showdown.  This year on Thursday, before the Fri-Sat event, there will be a golf outing, a charity auction for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital at 6:30 pm, and a band that evening.  All fans are welcome!  If you’re a race fan, you won’t want to miss out on one of the biggest races of the year!
