Last weekend on Saturday, May 6th, the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 66th Annual Community Sale. Fairbury has held this event for so many years, and it brings lots and lots of folks into town every time. Besides the fun of seeing people in town, it is great how many organizations get involved!
Complementing the sale, the Fairbury Firewives had their foodstand, serving delicious sandwiches next to the Chamber office (the old City Hall). VFW held their biscuits, gravy, & eggs event, the Odd Fellows had their Pancake & Sausage event, and the Garden Club had their annual plant sale at Dominy Library. This is truly a “community” event each year. Thanks to the Chamber for putting this event together, and another extra “thank you” to all those folks and organizations who work hard to make it special.
This coming Friday and Saturday (May 12th & 13th), the Specialty Shops are holding their “Mother’s Day” event. Each shop has its own way of making these days special – discounts, samples, specials, and fun! Go browse and find something special for Mom! Cascade Gardens, west of town, is now open and in full swing with a huge array of hanging baskets, potted plants, flowers, vegetables, herbs, and more. Just for the event, on Saturday (May 13th) they have invited the Coffee Steamer to come to their grounds to serve up lattes, mochas, special coffees, and teas.
As you may know, the Coffee Steamer is the unique “mobile” business from the cross-roads of Route 24 & Route 47 in Forrest. Operating out of an adorable trailer, they serve daily on week-days from 6am to 2pm. If you have never sampled the special drinks from the Coffee Steamer or if you are hooked on these delicious treats, be sure to run out to Cascade Gardens on Saturday and pick up a hanging basket for Mom while you are there!
On Friday, folks may start coming into town for the big Speedway event on Saturday! This event #FALS Frenzy with a $10,000 to win is one of the bigger ones for the year. It is good to see people milling through the shops. We appreciate it.
“Lots of busy weekends,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops Group in Fairbury “so many events and so many folks working together to make our community a great place to live and visit.
“Make Mother’s Day special by finding the perfect gift for her in Fairbury! We have so many unique shops with such a variety of choices! Who needs to leave town?” continues Bobbi.
