Look Forward to a BIG Weekend in the Area

There is a lot scheduled in the Fairbury and surrounding area for this coming weekend! It is summer time and events are starting to draw people from other communities, and events in other communities are being attended by our local folks.

The Fairbury American Legion Speedway is hosting the UMP Summer Nationals on Saturday (June 25th). One of the biggest races of the year, the Summer Nationals draw a big following. This opens the door for other events, too…

Such as… the Specialty Shops are hosting the annual Sizzling Summer Event this weekend. This enterprising assembly of local merchandise and service providers always comes up with specials, samples, discounts, and sales that give their customers plenty of incentive to investigate the unique items that they bring to the availability arena along with a vast assortment of standard fare products that everyone needs for family, home, and beyond.

On Friday and Saturday, June 24th & 25th, they’ve got the “Sizzling Summer Event” that follows their protocol of making the exercise of shopping a satisfying adventure of looking and finding. Be sure to stop by any or all of the Specialty Shops – Kilgus Farmstead, Fairbury Furniture, The Spotted Owl, Dave’s Supermarket, Heart’s Desire, Lost Arts, Country Cupboard, Meyer’s Gifts, Once ‘n Again, Frugality, and Serendipity Cards & Gifts.

“Our shop owners are often told by people from outside the area, that we have something unique in Fairbury. The variety of shops is a great asset to our community. We are thankful for all the hard work, patronage and support,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group.

“There is also a big event in Chatsworth this weekend,” continues Bobbi. “Each Saturday they have a Farmer’s Market, and the last Saturday of the month, Chatsworth hosts a “Junk in the Trunk.” It is like a flea market out of your trunk. Everyone – buyers and sellers – are all welcome. Sellers park their vehicles downtown and sell out of their trunks. Buyers can come, browse and enjoy!”

“Other fun things to see in Chatsworth include the McGathering, the home of 12 ½ collector cars, and a new museum with pre-1950 tractors and vintage items on display.

“Last month at the Junk in the Trunk, there was an ice cream truck selling a variety of flavors and cones, a lemonade stand, delicious popcorn, and the Citizens Advisory Board sold pork chop sandwiches, chips and a cold drink. They expect these vendors to come back for this weekend (Saturday, June 24th 10am to 4pm)! This is a neat event for the community. What we see is communities working together – sending people back and forth – making a bigger impact for the entire area.

“If you have any questions about the Chatsworth Junk in the Trunk, feel free to call (815) 674-5497,” concludes Bobbi.
