Earlier this month, the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and the Rebekah’s of Fairbury had another successful event. It was a nice day and this event, along with the SUPER weekend event sponsored by the Specialty Shops, brought lots of folks to Fairbury.
The IOOF served Pancakes and Sausage in their hall above Meyer’s Gifts and Services. The streets were filled with cars, and people were filing up the stairs to enjoy a great meal. At the top of the stairs the Rebekah’s hosted a bake sale with delicious treats for all!
“Eight to ten younger members (men and women) have joined our organization in the last couple years,” says Arnold Ifft, member of IOOF. “These young people were a big help for this event. It is encouraging to see the younger folks involved in volunteer organizations like ours.”
The savory aroma of the sausage was inviting, and the whole meal was delicious. Members of the IOOF were responsible for cooking and serving, and the Boy/Cub Scouts helped serve and bus the tables, making a great team.
“We plan to have another event from 7-11am on the day of the community sale on Saturday, May 6th,” says Steve Metz, member of the IOOF. Be sure to mark your calendars!
“Organizations like the IOOF and Rebekahs do a lot of good for our community,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops Group. “We are thankful for events like these that help bring folks to town and then benefit families and children with the funds that are raised,” Bobbi concludes.
