Everyone is invited to the 2nd Annual A Local Taste: Flavors From the Farm at Sunken Park in downtown Fairbury. On Saturday, August 4th, from 11 am to 3 pm, you can savor excellent food from local farmers and food vendors. You will be able to purchase chicken legs, pork sandwiches, BBQ, corn dogs, Mexican food, fried sides, ice cream, and lemonade shake-ups to name a few.
A Local Taste: Flavors From the Farm is for people of all ages. Kids can enjoy activities like a bouncy house obstacle course while the adults play games and admire old tractors. Everyone can look forward to dunking Fairbury’s mayor in the Dunk Tank! If you raise enough money, Mayor David Slagel will end up in a tank of frigid water.
The event was started last year as the result of a survey done by the residents of Fairbury. The Fairbury Improvement Group created a list of actions the people of Fairbury wanted to be taken, and one of the items on the list was a food festival. With the help of the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Steidinger Foods, A Local Taste: Flavors From the Farm was born.
The event’s goal is to educate the community about the farmers, businesses, and restaurants that help put food on our tables. The food offered is produced and supplied by local businesses such as Dave’s Supermarket, Kilgus Farmstead, Slagel Family Farm, Steidinger Foods, Cilantro and Lime, VFW, and UCLC.
The Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the sponsors of the event, including the previously mentioned businesses as well as Brandt, First State Bank of Forrest, Fairbury-Cropsey Community Bank, Leman Paint Works, Farm Hats, and Bluestem Bank.
“A Local Taste wouldn’t be possible without the help and aid of others,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of Specialty Shops in Fairbury. “This is a great opportunity to try some festival food while supporting local businesses.”
