Grant from Livingston County Board of Realtors

As you know, a lot has been happening at Marsh Park.  This year 2017 marks a year of huge investment of resources, volunteer time, and creativity for the oldest park in our city’s history.

Many financial bequests have been made toward the park’s transformation.  Besides donations from generous individuals, Prairie Lands Foundation has been a huge part in financing the costs.  Thank you!  Popejoy’s donated the below-ground plumbing.   Thank you!  Ace Hardware donated some equipment rentals, Thank you!  The City of Fairbury put in the sidewalks and the other concrete work, Thank you! The Odd Fellows are donating $1,000 towards the park project.  Thank you!  This doesn’t even touch on the amount of time including many, many volunteer hours which many area residents, led by Dale Maley, have contributed over the last several months.

Most recently, Marsh Park received a Placemaking Grant in the amount of $2,142.08 from the National Association of REALTORS, through the Livingston County Board of REALTORS.  This check covers the cost of the two historic murals ($1,343.34) and a park bench ($798.74).  Jill Thompson with Indian Creek Realty helped secure this grant for Marsh Park.

Dale Maley says, “Remarkably, the Marsh Park project which has spanned several months has stayed on target with the initial timeline we set in the beginning.  Getting the park benches in place was one of the last volunteer tasks to be completed.  Thanks to all the volunteers and the generous donors, our oldest city park is now one that our community can be very proud of!”

“We are very thankful for this nice influx of funding for the park!” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire Antiques and Accents and coordinator of the Specialty Shops Group.  “We want to extend a special thank you to Jill Thompson for her part in obtaining this grant!”

Many other individuals have made donations to Prairie Lands Foundation for the park project. If you would like to donate, simply mail a check to Prairie Lands Foundation, 104 E. Locust Street, Fairbury, Illinois, 61739.
