You don’t want to miss out on the 10th anniversary of the Munzy Golf Outing taking place on Saturday, July 21, at the Indian Creek Golf & Country Club in Fairbury, IL! This morning session starts at 8 a.m. for 18-holes of golf! A complimentary lunch and golf cart are included.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of the event, a gift basket will be given out. There will be gift packs which will include golf balls, tees, and a card in memory of Brian Munz. A few drink tumblers will be up for grabs as well. When golfers check in, they will also receive a drink holder.
The Outing commemorates the life of Brian Munz who died in the line of duty as a fireman on July 22, 2008. The event was first started in 2009 by a close friend of Brian’s. The Munzy Golf Outing grew in size and has become an annual tradition since then. In Brian’s honor, a fire truck is brought to the golf course, and its siren inaugurates the event.
The Outing supports the idea of balancing work and leisure. “Brian lived life to the fullest,” says Karen Munz, Brian’s mother. “He was a hard worker in lots of jobs, but he always saved time to have fun.”
Josh Hoselton, assistant chief at the Fairbury Fire Department and a friend of Brian’s, participates in the event every year. He says that the Outing is a fun way for people to spend time together. Not only is the event a way to remember Brian, but it’s also a way to connect with your friends and family while supporting a good cause.
Proceeds of the Outing are donated to the Fairbury Fire Department. Over $60,000 have been raised in the past ten years. The donations are used to improve the fire department’s building, interior spaces, and equipment. It couldn’t be done without help, though. Everyone who is connected to the Outing is thankful for contributors who have helped out over the years.
“It’s a joy to see the community come together to aid a worthy cause,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of Specialty Shops in Fairbury. “It’s amazing to see the impact the Munzy Golf Outing has made.”
