This coming weekend on Saturday, May 7th, the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 65th Annual Community Sale. It begins at 10am. For 65 years, Fairbury has held this event which brings lots and lots of folks into town. Complementing the sale, the Fairbury Firewives will have their foodstand (11am-2pm) serving delicious sandwiches next to the Chamber office (the old City Hall) and often there are other organizations holding bake sales and/or fundraisers downtown. This is truly a “community” event.
On Friday and Saturday (May 6th & 7th), the Specialty Shops are holding their “Mother’s Day” event. Each shop has its own way of making these days special – discounts, samples, specials, and fun! Go browse and find something special for Mom! Cascade Gardens, west of town, is now open and in full swing with a huge array of hanging baskets, potted plants, flowers, vegetables, herbs, and more. Just for the event, they have invited the Coffee Steamer to come to their grounds to serve up lattes, mochas, special coffees, and teas. The Coffee Steamer is the unique “mobile” business from the cross-roads of Route 24 & Route 47 in Forrest. Operating out of an adorable trailer, they serve daily on week-days from 6am to 2pm. If you have never sampled the special drinks from the Coffee Steamer or if you are hooked on these delicious treats, be sure to run out to Cascade Gardens on Saturday and pick up a hanging basket for Mom while you are there!
On Friday, folks may start coming into town for the big Speedway event on Saturday! This event #FALS Frenzy with a $10,000 to win is one of the bigger ones for the year. If you haven’t heard, the Speedway has invested big-time into our community with new bleachers and bathrooms to enhance the experience of our race fans.
On Saturday, along with the Community Sale, Fairbury will be swarming with busy-ness as the VFW will be holding their biscuits, gravy, & eggs event (6:30am-11am), the Odd Fellows are holding their Pancake & Sausage event (7am-11am), and the Garden Club will have their annual plant sale at Dominy Library (8:30am to 1pm).
“What a great community we have,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops Group in Fairbury “so many events and so many folks working together to make our community a great place to live and visit.
“With the Coffee Steamer from Forrest coming to Cascade Gardens on Saturday, this is another example of communities working together,” continues Bobbi. Let’s help make the weekend great by supporting the different organizations going to great efforts and putting in a lot of time and hard work to sponsor the fun things that help make our area so wonderful!”
As always, if you have any stories, ideas or suggestions for interesting topics about our community, please stop by Heart’s Desire, call Bobbi McKeon at (815) 692-4500 or email fairbury@fairburyILattractions.com.
