On Saturday, August 26th, Prairie Lands Foundation will be sponsoring an event from 7pm – 9pm. Beginning at the Dominy Memorial Library, join entomologists Dr. Michael Jeffords and Susan Post who have expertise and skills in science and photography and will guide the group to explore Fugate Woods at night.
Don’t miss this unique exploration of the insects and other creatures that call an Illinois forest home. As skies darken, Michael and Susan will give a short program on creatures of the night, followed by black-lighting to attract insects from the surrounding landscape. Insects from mayflies to moths are likely to make an appearance!
“As soon as the sky is sufficiently dark, we will explore a mysterious Fugate Woods with black-lighting and miniature spotlights to see and experience arthropod activity seldom witnessed. Everything from giant wolf spiders to munching caterpillars to charming tree frogs will likely appear in our flashing beams,” says Dr. Jeffords.
“This sounds like an exciting event that will bring people from all over to visit Fairbury,” says Bobbi McKeon owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. “Thanks to Prairie Lands Foundation for sponsoring these events to enjoy nature.”
