Summer is here – at least it feels that way! Fairbury Echoes Museum’s summer hours are Thursday and Friday 1-4:30pm, and Saturday, 9-11:30am. Don’t miss the new display about HONEGGER’S in Fairbury. The Honegger’s Feed business is definitely a large part of Fairbury’s history.
Just as a start…a brief synopsis can be found online at www.resincarworks.com/honeggers.pdf – the writer borrowed many of Fairbury Echoes pictures of Honegger when writing their article.
“For many years, Fairbury was home to Honeggers’ Feeds – an innovative feed company formed by Sam and Frank Honegger in 1928. The Honeggers first established their feed operation in Forrest, Illinois, but soon relocated west to Fairbury. When the Fairbury plant was destroyed by a fire in 1949, Honeggers’ broke ground in 1950 on a modern plant on the west side of Fairbury… The facility on Locust Street was served by both railroads and became a major generator of traffic. Honeggers flourished throughout the 1950s and early 1960s expanding into nine other states.”
During the Indian Creek Market on June 3rd, Fairbury Echoes hosted the first 2017 “History Talkers” event on Locust Street, with six “Talkers” talking about the different historical places and people that make up our colorful history.
“We mis-stated the dates of future History Talkers events in one of our previous columns in the Blade. These events will coincide with the Indian Creek Market dates this summer. The 2017 Market Saturday dates include June 3rd, July 29th, August 12th, and September 2nd.” say Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops in Fairbury.
“The history of our Main Street is very interesting. Many people were able to participate in learning from the History Talkers on the first event of the season. This is a great complementary event for the Market. Don’t miss the next one!” concludes Bobbi.
