Fairbury is fortunate to have so many specialty shops. Our residents and visitors benefit from the variety of items they offer and the wonderful selection of goods that are available so we don’t need to leave town for them. Of course, these shops are an attraction and bring many visitors and tourist to our area from out of town. We are truly benefited in many ways.
One way that often may be overlooked is the patronage our area receives from the booth renters at the consignment and resale shops. Consigners come to Fairbury to sell their items (often hand-crafted) in the local specialty shops. They come from far and wide – Paxton, Bloomington, Saunemin, LeRoy, Pontiac, Minonk, Kankakee, Cabery, Tuscola, Dwight, Carlock, and more!
When these folks come to bring their consignment items, they open bank accounts here, they shop here, too, benefitting Dave’s Supermarket, Once ‘n Again, Lost Arts, and the other retail and specialty shops. Of course, they often eat out at Lost in Time, Dave’s, Marchelloni’s, Dairy Queen, China Kitchen, Indian Creek Country Club or another restaurant in town.
“My consignors love to come to Fairbury,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire, a consignment shop. “One said if she had to move, she would move to Fairbury. It is a great community with most everything she needs!”
“Other local shops that accept consignments also have consignors from out of town.” Bobbi concludes. “These consignors benefit from our shops’ foot traffic, and Fairbury benefits from their patronage when they to come to Fairbury for business!”
As always, please stop by Heart’s Desire, call Bobbi McKeon at (815) 692-4500 or email fairbury@fairburyILattractions.com with any stories, ideas or suggestions for interesting topics to write for our community.
