This coming Saturday (September 30th), the 13th Annual Wabash Festival will be held in downtown Forrest. Activities taking place from 10am-4pm, with breakfast starting at 7:30am. Besides wonderful Breakfast and Lunch Stands along with live entertainment, there will be many free events and attractions including:

- Kiddie Train Rides and Inflatables
- a Unicyclist
- Horse Rides
- Antique Tractor Show
- DIY Photo Booth
- Street Vendors
- Face Painting
- Live Entertainment
- Old Time Medicine Show
Take this opportunity to visit the renovated Forrest Depot and also the quaint Hampsher Hotel! Also, there is a new Museum – the Jerry’s Hat Museum! F-S-W Eskimos & PC Hawks Alumni are encouraged to stop by the Alumni Center in the Forrest American Legion, too. Live entertainment will be provided by Back Paiges & Living Water. This event also boasts “Wa’Bash Firepit Package Give-A-Way” and “Wa’Bash Souvenir T-shirts. What a great way for families to enjoy a day full of Fun, Food and Friends! Make plans to head to this Wabash Festival – before or after the Fairbury garage sales.
The Fairbury Women’s Club is, once again, sponsoring the Fairbury Fall All Town Garage Sale Days – this Friday (Sept. 29th) and Saturday (Sept. 30th). This is a great event attracting many folks to town.
With the goal being to bring people to Fairbury to experience the area, the Fairbury Women’s Club has ads in 20 publications and four websites, plus they print maps and flyers. The ads cover a 200-mile radius of Fairbury bringing many people from out of town and out of state. Maps are on line at www.cityoffairbury.com, and can be picked up at Dave’s, R & D Liquors, Doc’s, Heart’s Desire, Casey’s, Spotted Owl, Fairbury DQ, Serendipity, Fairbury Furniture, and Once N Again.
The profits from the sales have been used for local community projects such as Brian Munz Safety Complex, Dominy Memorial Library Summer Reading Program, Relay for Life, PC Music Program, Illinois Leadership Seminar for Sophomore student, June Blood Drive, and After Prom, plus projects such as Operation Smile, Canine Companions, Shot@Life, Helping Babies Breathe, Camp I Am Me, Veterans projects, Native American projects, Shawnee National Forrest, Winning Wheels and Very Special Arts, to name a few.
Also, Friends of Dominy Library Fall Book Sale will be held Thursday, September 28, 9am-6pm, Friday, September 29, 9am-5pm and Saturday, September 30, 9am-Noon. The shelves in the Friends’ Book Sale Room have been restocked with a great variety of titles covering many categories. While you are taking in the Fairbury All-town-garage-sales, stop in for some great fall and winter reading material.
Don’t forget the Wabash Festival in Forrest. “The celebration takes place downtown,” says Kim Benway, one of the coordinators of this big event. “Come join us on Saturday for FREE, FAMILY, FUN in FORREST! Also, there will be golf carts stationed around to transport people throughout the festival – bank corner to pavilion to depot.”
