Big Weekend Draws Visitors

Our small town has “been springing into spring” lately. Lots of big weekends! This one coming up is centered around the Town-wide Garage Sales, sponsored by the Women’s Club. This event is huge for the town. People come from as far as Bloomington, Braidwood, and even Indiana!

The maps will be printed and available at Dave’s Supermarket, Casey’s General Store, Doc’s, Hearts Desire, Dairy Queen, The Spotted Owl, R&D Liquor & Mini-Mart, Serendipity, and Once ‘n Again – you can also see them at City of Fairbury.

Complementing the garage sales is the Hunt for Treasures event sponsored by the Specialty Shops! Go have fun finding bargains at Cascade Gardens, Country Cupboard, Dave’s Supermarket, Fairbury Furniture, Heart’s Desire Antiques & Accents, Kilgus Farmstead, Lost Arts, Meyer’s Gifts and Services, Nature’s Designs Floral Gallery, Once ‘n Again, Serendipity Cards & Gifts, & The Spotted Owl. Watch for $2 tags!

Another fun event …The Friends of the Dominy Library have their annual Book Sale scheduled for Thursday, April 28th, from 9am to 6pm, Friday, April 29th, from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday, April 30th, from 9am to 12pm in the lower level of the library. This vast collection of gently used books (includes CDs & DVDs) is inclusive of fiction, biographies, bibles and religious themes, self-help, magazines, instructional, and children’s books. There’s classics, fantasy, sci-fi, westerns, romance, current fiction, cook books, gardening, and an assortment of LARGE PRINT editions that can make the experience a lot easier for some of us.

“Holding multiple events on the same day, helps to bring a broader group on interested visitors,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. “On Saturday, April 30th, the Speedway also has a special race – $2,000 to win – Dirt Car Spring Nationals Street Stock Special – 43 lap feature in memory of Earl J. Hubert to finish up a regular night of racing for the LM, MD, and SP classifications.

“This should be a big weekend in town!” concludes Bobbi.
