Our small town has “been springing into spring” lately. Lots of big weekends! This weekend coming up is focused around the Town-wide Garage Sales, sponsored by the Women’s Club. The All Town Garage Sale event is huge for the town. People come from as far as Dwight, Bloomington, Champaign, Gibson City, Lexington, Coal City, and even Indiana!
The garage sales start on Friday April 28th – 9am-6pm and run until Saturday. April 29th – 9am-3pm. Also, there is a NEW-JUNK N THE TRUNK event on Friday only in the Presbyterian Church Parking lot on corner of 3rd and Elm. The maps will be printed and available online at www.CityofFairbury.com. Also, they can be picked up at Dave’s, Heart’s Desire, Casey’s, Fairbury DQ, Someone Else’s Treasures, Indian Creek Realty, Once N Again, and Frugality.
Complementing the garage sales is the Hunt for Treasures event sponsored by the Specialty Shops! Go have fun finding bargains at Cascade Gardens, Country Cupboard, Dave’s Supermarket, Fairbury Furniture, Heart’s Desire Antiques & Accents, Kilgus Farmstead, Lost Arts, Meyer’s Gifts and Services, Once ‘n Again, Serendipity Cards & Gifts, & The Spotted Owl.
Also, on Friday (April 28th), Fairview Haven is having a bake sale from 9am to 5pm (or till gone!). All proceeds will be used for remodeling the Blessings Way Spa.
Another fun event …The Friends of the Dominy Library have their annual Book Sale scheduled for Thursday, April 27th, from 9am to 6pm, Friday, April 28th, from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday, April 29th, from 9am to 12pm in the lower level of the library at 201 S 3rd St in Fairbury. This vast collection of gently used books (includes CDs & DVDs) is inclusive of gardening, romance, natural & family health, cookbooks, mysteries, fiction, Christian, Westerns, spy, fantasy, children’s books, travel, political, history, series collections, LARGE PRINT, Bibles, self-help, parenting, biographies, magazines, and more! What a great way to stock up for spring/summer reading!
“Holding multiple events on the same day helps to bring a broader group of interested visitors,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops group. “The Speedway has also started with its season of racing! The Speedway works well with us (the Specialty Shops) to get the people from the track to the shops while they are waiting for the race. We appreciate it.”
“This should be a big weekend in town!” concludes Bobbi.
