Big Christmas Weekend Coming Up!

Another big Fairbury weekend is almost here!  The annual Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is this weekend on Saturday, December 2nd – the parade begins at 11:30am.  Mark your calendars to go and enjoy the parade and all the other activities that day.

Bobbi McKeon of Heart’s Desire says, “Get ready for a busy weekend.  The parade is something to look forward to each year – with Miss Merry Christmas and Jack Frost, all the floats and other entries, and of course Santa!  Santa will be at the VFW after the parade until 2pm.  Plus, don’t miss all the other activities around town!

“This weekend is the perfect time to shop for Christmas!  There are so many opportunities available all over town,” continues Bobbi.

The Specialty Shops are having a “Shopping Celebration” Event this weekend.   Each shop has its own special items and/or events.  Go enjoy your Christmas shopping at Fairbury Furniture, Serendipity, Lost Art’s, Kilgus Farmstead, Meyer’s Gifts, Heart’s Desire, Once ‘n Again, and Country Cupboard, with a special Christmas Open House at Country Cupboard.

The Indian Creek Market is hosting their Christmas Market at the SELCAS Building from 9am to 2pm.  There will be lots of vendors plus a bake sale!

Another shopping (and dining!) opportunity on Saturday includes the Relay for Life Christmas Bazaar event at the gym at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury (701 N 7th St., Fairbury).  Shop for your Christmas gifts at the various vendors from 7:30am – 2pm and help a cause for cancer!   Enjoy a biscuit and gravy breakfast beginning at 7:30 am.

The horse-drawn carriage rides, sponsored by Bluestem Bank will be back again.  In the last several years, these free rides have drawn folks to town to enjoy a leisurely ride throughout the streets of Fairbury.  Rides will begin after the parade until 1pm starting on the corner of 3rd and Locust streets.

The Fairbury Lion’s Club is holding their annual Chili and Oyster lunch at the hall of the IOOF (International Order of Oddfellows) above Meyers’ Gifts and Services. (the old Sav-Mor building – 122 W. Locust St.)   Serving begins at 11:30 am and ends at 1:30pm.  Don’t miss out!   Once again, this event has been an annual event for many, many years bringing folks to town to treat themselves to chili and oysters!

Search the Blade for other events happening in town and in the area!

“From east to west and north to south – all over Fairbury, you will find neat shops, great vendors, wonderful food and more!” says Bobbi.  “Don’t miss this huge weekend in Fairbury!”

A lot of work goes into creating an event-filled day like this one.  However, events like these help keep our small towns alive.  Mark your calendar and go out and support the local folks by enjoying a fun-filled day in Fairbury!
