January is a hard time for everyone: With the holiday season over, the thing we focus on is looking forward to spring. The Winter Blues may have settled in, but the retail businesses in Fairbury want to help. This weekend, visit the various stores and shop the blues away!
Start off your year on the right foot with amazing bargains, big discounts, and new merchandise. On Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, stop by any of the Specialty Shops of Fairbury stores to take advantage of all the specials; there’s something for everybody!
The Specialty Shops include Lost Arts, The Spotted Owl, Country Cupboard, Dave’s Supermarket, Fairbury Furniture, Heart’s Desire, Kilgus Farmstead, Once ’n Again, and Serendipity Cards & Gifts.
“The Beat the Winter Blues event is a great way to get out of the house and spend some quality time with your friends and family,” says Bobbi McKeon, coordinator of the Specialty Shops of Fairbury and owner of Heart’s Desire. “This event is also beneficial to all the other businesses in the area because they bring shoppers from all over. Through events like the Beat the Winter Blues, you can give back to your community!”
While you’re out and about on Saturday, visit the Fairbury Echoes Museum for a guided tour. Local historian Dale Maley will lead you through the five-room exhibition and answer any question you may have about the area. The Echoes Museum’s themed exhibit is focusing on Fairbury’s history from 1860 to 1899. Admire the vintage clothing and blacksmith tools, follow a timeline of events in the Fairbury area, and compare Fairbury, IL, to Fairbury, NE, through pictures. The Pre-1900 exhibit is open every Saturday in January and February from 9 to 11:30 am. The Echoes Museum has no admission charge.
