Another Way to Seek and Sell Treasures

This coming weekend on Saturday, July 23rd, Chatsworth will be hosting another “Junk in the Trunk,” a really neat event.  Anyone is invited to come to sell or buy! It’s like a flea market from you trunk.  The idea is to pull up in your car/vehicle with a trunk full of treasures in downtown Chatsworth on Main Street.

Most area communities have had their town-wide garage sales, and this is an opportunity to sell what didn’t sell!  It is a great social event and helps local people.  It is like going to many garage sales in one spot.

Events like this in area towns help the communities surrounding it.  This event has been going on for years in Morris, Illinois.  The coordinator from Morris, Ken Willis, offered to help start this in Chatsworth, if they abided by all his rules.

Everyone is invited!  It is a monthly event – in Chatsworth – the 4th Saturday from May through October (weather permitting).  Operating hours are 10am to 4pm.  No reservations are required!  It is on a first-come, first serve basis.  Setup time is 8:30am on the day of the event.  For vendors only, there is a $10 donation per parking spot to participate in selling treasures, with $5 going each month to a charity.    A spot is approximately 10’ x 30’ with a 3’ walkway between vendors.  This space will fit your vehicle and approximately three 6’ to 10’ tables.  Bring your own tables!

No commercial vendors, mass-produced/bulk, imported items or clothes are allowed.  Antiques, crafts, artwork, household items, tools, collectibles, garage/estate sale items are encouraged.  All participants are responsible for their own cleanup.

“Events like these can be a lot of fun,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops of Fairbury.  “We see spill over in our shops when there are garage sales and other events in the surrounding area.  People love hunting for treasures.  We plan to have a guest book there for people to sign in and participate in the $100 monthly drawing so that we can stay connected with people and bring them back to our area again and again.”

The Citizen’s Advisory Board of Chatsworth will be serving pork chop sandwiches.  An ice cream truck is expected to be there on most event dates.  Also, some children are planning a lemonade stand.  The remaining dates for 2016 are Saturdays –  July 23rd, August 27th, September 24th, and October 22nd.  Go have some fun!

Also, SAVE THE DATE!  On Sat. July 30th – 11am to noon, at Fairbury’s downtown Central Park, there will be a dedication for the five murals, created by resident historian, Dale Maley.  These murals are sponsored by Prairie Lands Foundation. Each mural depicts an important part of Fairbury’s history.  Refreshments will be served after the dedication and presentation.  Plan to be there!
