Now we have a whole new year ahead of us! After a very successful year in 2017 in Fairbury, it is exciting to think about what will happen in this coming year.
Plans for 2018 were reviewed at the recent meeting of the Fairbury Improvement Group. Already there is a lot on the horizon!
Marsh Park’s Grand Reopening is set for July 28th, 2018. The Grand Reopening will be a great kick-off for all the improvements made to Marsh Park over the past calendar year. A family-friendly event is planned. The event will include a golf cart parade as well as many children’s activities. There will also be live bands hired to perform. This weekend will be a big weekend in Fairbury, as the Marsh Park event coincides with the Prairie Dirt Classic by FALS. The Fairbury Improvement group is sure to make this an event you will not want to miss.
Another item on the project list is to repaint the 1882 Archer House Building sign. After historical building research by Dale Maley, there will first need to be permission obtained from the building’s owner. This will be another nice signage addition on Main Street.
Also, a plan is in place to install a ramp for access to Sunken Park, as there is no current ramp access for the events that take place there throughout the year. The ramp is planned at the NE corner (Locust & 5th). The City has already put dirt in place, ready to start work in the Spring.
There is also a plan for a new steel bench in the Central Park which the City will install in the spring of 2018.
“Everyone is welcome to join the Fairbury Improvement Group as they plan for this year’s enhancements to our small town,” says Bobbi McKeon, owner of Heart’s Desire and coordinator of the Specialty Shops Group. “The next meeting will take place February 20, 2018 at New City Hall, as the group plans to skip the January meeting.”
