Farm Tours & Chef Prepared Dinners

FAIRBURY, IL – Slagel Family Farms Dinner Tour – Saturday, September 26th featuring Chefs Jason Hammel and Mike Simmons from the Nightwood and Lula & Rootstock restaurants out of the Chicago land area.  These popular, once a month from spring through fall, dinner tours have a whole lot of things happening in addition to a professionally prepared four course high quality dinner – you get the opportunity to meet the Folks who run the farm that produces the meat and products that end up in so many of these fine Chicago area restaurants as well as our local dispersing facilities.  Guests are asked to arrive at the Farm (southeast of Fairbury at 23601 East 600 North Road) by 2:30pm and once everyone is on site the tour begins with a snack followed by a guided and informative walk through of the Farm’s facilities.  You’ll get to meet the animals, interact with a few of them, hear how it all works, watch a meat cutting exhibition, and then conclude the event with a meal prepared by professional chefs that are from a couple of well regarded Chicago-land restaurants that use the Slagel Farm meat products.  Its a great way to spend a portion of your Saturday – its educational and informative, its fun, and the meals have a great reputation for being creative, well prepared, and delicious.  There’s four courses served in a “Barn” but, that is only a description of the buildings appearance because it is used exclusively for the dinner presentation and you will be eating a meal that came from products raised literally feet from where you are sitting.

The October installment of these dinner tours will be happening on Saturday, October 3rd and it will be featuring Chef David Digregoro of the Osteria Via Sato Restaurant and Chef John Asbaty of the White Oak Tavern Restaurant, both out of the Chicago areas high end dining registry.  The timing, the tour, and the start to finish format will be the same and you can purchase your tickets or contact them just as it is shown for the September 26th event.  Another opportunity to experience this unique adventure in farm roots and dining that’s conducted by the Folks that make it happen all year long as well as the professional food engineers from the last phase of these products journey.
